Aviation Cultures is a series of conferences where researchers and practitioners come together to share their knowledge and ideas about flight, and its place in history and society. To understand what kinds of things Aviation Cultures is about, read more about our history, and you can also look at what we discussed in past conferences!
What’s happening? Our 2025-26 program includes two Spotlights, along with our previously announced Aviation Cultures Mk.VIII Conference.

On 8 November 2025 we held ‘Logbooks & AvDocs’, in which field experts talked about finding and interpreting logbooks and other aviation docs.
Next, on 27-28 February 2026, is ‘Print the Legend‘. A look at the changes in aviation biography from the old ‘Boy’s Own’ to more detailed and tougher modern ‘warts and all’ biographies. As well as some famous names profiled by current authors, there will be other aspects of aviation storytelling examined!
The Spotlights are free and online. With topic experts on aviation writing, you don’t want to miss them! Stay tuned for details, experts, and maybe YOU can contribute too?
After the Spotlights we will be building up to the Aviation Cultures Mk.VIII Conference, our next major event. It’s international, in Canada, in partnership with two great organisations, and it’s online as well! The Call for Papers is open until 5 February. Details on the Conference page HERE, and you can submit your proposal on the online form HERE.
