Aviation Cultures is a series of conferences where researchers and practitioners come together to share their knowledge and ideas about flight, and its place in history and society. To understand what kinds of things Aviation Cultures is about, read more about our history, and you can also look at what we discussed in past conferences!
What’s happening? We have two Spotlight events in late 2025 and early 2026 now scheduled to join the previously announced Mk.VIII Conference.

First up on 8 November 2025, is ‘Logbooks & AvDocs’. Field experts will talk about finding and interpreting logbooks and other aviation docs. If you’re an aviation researcher or enthusiast it’ll help! Zoom, online, with a live Q&A at the end, so a date for your diary! See the link for the Call for Papers.
Next, 27-28 Feb, 2026, is ‘Print the Legend‘. A look at the changes in aviation biography from the old ‘Boy’s Own’ to more detailed and tougher modern ‘warts and all’ biographies. As well as some famous names profiled by current authors, there will be other aspects of aviation storytelling examined!
The Spotlights are free and online. With topic experts on aviation writing, you don’t want to miss them! Stay tuned for details, experts, and maybe YOU can contribute too?
And even more important – the previously announced Mk.VIII Conference. Our next major event, it’s international, in Canada, in partnership with two great organisations, and it’s online, as well!
