Aviation Cultures News! On the very day the first Aviation Cultures event took place ten years ago, the team are delighted to announce a number of online events. Later in 2025 we will have two ‘Spotlights’ over 1 to 2 days each: ‘Logbooks & Avdocs’ and ‘Print the Legend’. And a full conference in mid-2026, the first Aviation Cultures Canada!
‘Logbooks & AvDocs’ will be run by myself (JDK) and Phil Vabre, and will be a mix of useful resources and discussion, on using primary aviation sources for research, as well as real case studies by experts – authors, historians, archivists. Worldwide in scope. Jot a note to follow up!

‘Print the Legend’ run by Andy Wright of Aircrew Book Review, will be a chance to look at the changes from the ‘Boy’s Own’ pilot biographies of the 1950s to today’s much more nuanced examinations of outstanding aviators. Wait! There’s more: including company ‘biographies’, and other ‘legends’ vs facts.
And the BIG one for 2026: the first full overseas Aviation Cultures Conference, ‘AvCultures Canada’. This will be in mid 2026, Canada based, aiming for hybrid online and live, and embedded in some great Canadian heritage aviation. As with the ‘smol airplanes’ in the pic, it’s a small start, but it’ll grow.

Don’t miss out! We want YOU join us as contributor or audience. We’ve had GREAT feedback about how invaluable people have found AvCultures experience – some testimonials coming over this week! We’re in discussions for more possible events, and always open to ideas. Let’s keep Phil surprised!

And there’ll be calls for papers, dates, comms details rolling out as we lock them down. We have some names and topics in frame, but we’re certainly keen to hear from you, too. So don’t be shy, get in touch!
